COMBAT
- BIO FUNGICIDE |
| |
Introduction |
| |
|
In
recent years, the increasing use of hazardous fungicides
in agriculture has been the subject of concern worldwide.
The chemical fungicides are polluting our food and environment
with toxic residues.
The
need of the hour is to shift and focus our fungus control
programme towards environment friendly Bio fungicides.
Bio fungicides contain naturally occurring fungi which
exhibit antifungal activity towards plant pathogenic
fungi.
| |
 |
|
| |
Unlike
chemical fungicides Bio fungicides can be used at all stages
of the crop growth without any fear of residues. Bio fungicides
can be used for organic farming to produce residue free food.
Combat
is a carrier [Talc] based formulation containing Trichoderma
harzianum, Trichoderma lignorum [viride], and Gliocladium
[Trichoderma] virens as a dynamic formulation.

Mode
of Action |
| |
The
microbes in Combat antagonise plant pathogenic fungi in the
following manner:
|
| |
- By
production of lytic enzymes like chitinases by Combat fungi
which rupture the host hyphae. These enzymes are produced
when Combat fungi come in contact with plant pathogenic
fungi. This results in extensive vacuolation, collapse,
shrinking and subsequent disintegration of hyphae of the
pathogenic fungi.
- By
production of proteases and lipases which digest internal
components of hyphae of plant pathogenic fungi. Combat fungi
can utilize the the plant pathogenic fungi as their food
- By
production of water-soluble diffusible antibiotics which
account for death of plant pathogenic fungi.
